So, now that you have ASKED someone if they are contemplating suicide, worked to KEEP THEM SAFE, and made sure you can BE THERE for them, we need to make sure we maintain that safety net. We need to work to help our friend or family member stay connected so that they don’t isolate themselves. Isolation can cause someone to stay in their own mind to long and also go unchecked to make sure they are safe.

When someone feels they have support and someone to reach out to, their suicidal thoughts can decrease. Aside from companionship and an ear to lend, we can do so much more to help them stay connected when they need it most.

Ways to help a loved one stay connected:

These are only a few ways to help a loved on stay connected. There are many more ways to create a safety net, and some can be creative ways you have thought of yourself to assist someone who is contemplating suicide. One of the most important parts of helping them stay connected, is making sure those resources are always available to them when they need it the most.

The reason why we need to maintain that safety net is so that they always feel loved, wanted, and protected. If we can’t follow through with the promises we have made or make available the resources we have proposed, it can make someone who is contemplating suicide feel as if they are a burden. That is obviously the last thing we want to do. So, help them stay connected. You might have to have an ever evolving resource pool to draw from, and a lot may require inspiration and creativity, but it also keeps it fresh. Potentially having the effect of making them feel like they are always at the front of your mind, which they most likely already are.
