So I finally made the decision to get glasses again this last week. It has been way to long. I was first prescribed glasses back in 2010. I had glasses for about a year until they broke. At the time I was in no position to purchase another pair because I was straight broke and in a very low point in my life. After that few years I was finally in a position to get glasses again, but procrastinated on it instead. Fast forward to last Friday, and now I have 4 eyes again!

I am confident in saying that most everyone has had some issues with the way they look at one point or another in their life. I am also confident in saying that those same people have thought about changing themselves to fit the mold brought on by society. Insecurity in the way you look is common. However, what you do with that insecurity is what sets you apart from others.

When in mental illness recovery, we thrive and grow from peoples stories of perseverance and ability to stay stable through times of adversity. We learn new ways to manage episodes that we live with daily. When we can also hear stories from people who live in the spotlight, in one way or another, through all of the stress, criticism, adversity, and more, we take much strength from that. The people who live in the spotlight and can still manage their mental illness diagnosis, is something to admire.

There’s no doubt that 2016 will go down as one of the worst years ever for America, and many other places around the world. This year we lost so many prominent faces to addiction, mental illness, and natural causes. People who were forces in their own rightful arenas. We were also either one side or the other from a toxic and dividing political election that pitted friend against friend and relative against relative. I ended up being on the losing side of things unfortunately, in more ways than one.
